Matt & Kim are a indie pop duo residing in Brooklyn, New York City, New York. The group was formed in 2005 and is composed of Matt Johnson (vocals/keyboards) and Kim Schifino (drums/vocals). They are known for their do-it-yourself attitude toward their music.
The duo released their first album, Matt & Kim, on October 26, 2006 under iheartcomix. The album garnered modest sales and sold around 7,000 copies in the United States according to Nielson SoundScan. Many indie fans praised their music, and the two gained popularity through their many outgoing tours.
Following the success of their first album, the duo, in seeking a record label, signed on with Fader Label. Their second album, Grand, was released on January 20, 2009.
